I have worked as a baby sitter for eight years now. I have also worked as a teacher's assistant and tutor for second grade students in the past.
Every summer I volunteer as a group leader at a week long program called Vacation Bible School where I would work with seven to eight preschooler or elementary aged kids.
I also volunteer frequently at the public library to help out with the preteen and vocationally the younger children's programs.

I love playing pretend with the kids. I also love crafts, baking, and any sort of game that includes just letting lose and running around outside for a while.
I'm an avid reader myself, so I also enjoy reading books with the children I watch, especially when it's a book where I can have fun by giving silly voices to some of the characters!

The most important part about being a nanny...
is opening yourself to learning from a child as much as you teach them. Even someone so young can have so much to teach you about the world and how it can be perceived. Being a nanny means being a part of this child's world and it is important that you learn how to fit into their perspective as well as expanding it with your own thoughts.

I was working with three kids with ages ranging from two to eight. We were playing pretend and I had just been arrested and thrown in jail by the two elder kids. I was pretending to be upset by being unjustly arrested and the little two year old comes over and so sincerely patted me on the shoulder and said "It's okay." My heart just melted. She then continued to "tuck me into bed" in my jail cell and made sure I was comfortable and no longer upset. The kindness this little girl showed me in this moment still brings a smile to my face.
