Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I have worked as a camp counselor at an overnight camp for middle school students. I also had a great opportunity to work as a student teacher in high school for a second grade classroom! On campus at Miami I am involved in a program called College Mentors for Kids. This allows me to mentor a 1st-3rd grade students each week! These have all been great experiences outside of babysitting/nannying that have taught me a lot about childcare.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I love to color and do art with kids. For current families I come up with clever crafts for the afternoons! I love to play outside and swim during the summers. Playing games and playing with toys is always a fun way to let them be creative! I also love to bake, read and sing and dance with the kiddos that I watch!
The most important part about being a nanny...
The most important part about nannying is creating a safe and supportive environment while the children are in my care. Being attentive to the individual needs and interests of each child, providing guidance, encouragement, and engaging them in activities that promote their development and creativity are the most important aspects of nannying. And having fun of course:)
My experience with special needs children...
I was a part-time student teacher during my senior year of high school in a second grade inclusion classroom. This classroom was specifically designed for special needs students to thrive. I worked one-on-one with students as well as group settings!
The most important part about being a nanny...
The most recent family I nannied for had a three year old and a 15 month old. I was with them full time at the house from about 8am-4pm and during one afternoon, the little boy said his first word with me! We were playing freeze dance and I was teaching him how to jump when he repeated the word "jump" back to me. It ended up being his favorite word and his favorite thing to do! It was such a special afternoon!
