A little bit about me

Hi everyone, my name is Erika! I am 20 years old and a 3rd year college student studying Psychology and Law. I have been around children my entire life :). I have helped care for my younger brother since he was a newborn for the past 3 years! I have also helped care for/ babysit my younger cousins (aged 4-10+ yrs) for most of my life. I love children and miss my brothers dearly when I'm not home with them, so I'm always eager to see/care for other kids to fill that hole in my heart!

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I have two younger brothers, age 17 and 4. There are 17 years between me and my youngest brother! He was a big surprise for my family, but I have been there to help care for him and watch him grow and learn new things since he was a newborn. I have also been the designated babysitter for my younger cousins because I was the oldest, so I have been around kids for my whole life basically!

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

My younger brother loves to play outside in our backyard. He has Autism, so he normally does not "play" with me very much, he rather enjoys running around and finding sticks to collect. He enjoys car rides blasting some of his favorite songs or being spun around in my arms. With other children though, the possibilities are endless! Swimming, reading books, watching movies, craft times, bike rides, park adventures, I look forward to it all!

The most important part about being a nanny...

Patience! As rewarding as it is to care for and make a child smile and laugh, you have to be ready for a full-blown tantrum/meltdown. Caring for a baby/toddler/child is never all sunshine and rainbows and you have to be prepared for the hard parts! Being patient and understanding while a child works through their emotions can be challenging, but is so important for them. Theres something so special when someone trusts you enough to care for their children. I know how hard it is to let someone into their lives and can assure you I only want was is best for your little one(s)!

My experience with special needs children...

My younger brother was diagnosed with Autism about a year ago. Since then we have been working with his therapists and learning all we can about how to properly care for him and his needs! I am still learning and growing with him, but I have a few years experience I would say. I have not been around other special needs children, however, but am always open to learning.

The most important part about being a nanny...

I would say my favorite nannying moment would be when I take my younger brother to the park. Watching his face light up at the sight of the slides and swings will always be priceless.
