A little bit about me

Hi! I’m Erika. I’m in the process of relocating and I absolutely adore children! I am 28, with no children of my own, but my family is full of them and most of my friends have made me an “auntie” as well! I’ve been the “designated babysitter” of my family, neighbors & friends for years and I’ve always enjoyed it! Their individual personalities, in their tiny little body’s never cease amaze me! I cherish every minute because they absolutely do grow up so fast!
Before the pandemic I was enrolled in college for Early Childhood Care and Education and I interned in both a 1st grade classroom and a toddler room in a daycare, then in 2023 I was a daycare teacher for 3 different classrooms overtime. My goal is continue working with children in the comfort of their own homes and carry out daily routines and activities to offer support to the children as well as their families. I will be moving to the Raleigh area the end of August and I can’t wait to work with and become a part of a new family!

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I have interned at Wintergreen Elementary School for a first grade class, as well as Greenhouse Preschool for a toddler class.
I worked at tiny hearts daycare in Ayden as a teacher in the infants room, toddler 1 & 2 room, and the age 5-6 year old after school room.
During Covid I nannied for a family I meet here on Nanny Lane, for a 3y/o boy with special needs.
I’ve babysat for several family members & friends for multiple summers in a row, taking the children to parks, pools, and playdates while their parents worked and/or took care of errands and household responsibilities.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I am a very outdoorsy person so I love long walks, especially to a park, pool or beach where the kids are allowed to be as loud as they want and play their hearts out! All types of ball games, kickball, softball, baseball, football, soccer, volleyball, and so on. Allowing the kids to help prepare/choose their own meals to help encourage them to eat if they are uninterested. I like to involve learning as much as possible since their brains are like sponges and they’re taking in new information all day, every day. But nothing beats the feeling of accomplishment after putting a restless baby down for a nap. No matter how many lullabies you sing, books you read or stories you tell, it’s worth it every time.

The most important part about being a nanny...

Having patience with, and love for children

My experience with special needs children...

I have a younger cousin with autism who I have babysat often. We work on her social skills as well as her pronunciation, handwriting, numbers and alphabet. I have two nephews with autism whom I help care for regularly to assist my sister due to her schedule being full of speech therapy appointments, behavioral therapy, and special nutritionists appointments. I understand the extreme difficulty that comes with caring for special needs children and am always eager to help when and where I can!
I also have an aunt with Down syndrome (who obviously isn’t a child but has similar interests as children). Before moving, I’d let my aunt stay with me on weekends to give my grandmother a break or if my grandma (her caregiver) went out of town I would be my aunts temporary caregiver during grandma absence. We enjoyed trips to the park for picnics or going out to eat for lunch and she loves coloring books so we took a few everywhere we went to keep her entertained and happy!

The most important part about being a nanny...

Teaching a 3 year old boy I babysat how to ride a bike without training wheels!!!
And the most reward, working with my nonverbal nephew so much (along with speech therapy) he is finally able to say my name!
