Being AWARE, PATIENT, HAVING GOOD LISTENING SKILLS. If I am not aware of what the children are doing or where they are this is dangerous. I also need to be able to follow any directions left for me by the family. Being patient with the kids might be the most important because they must learn me and I must learn them! The most important part about being a nanny...
My favorite nanny moment is from my first nanny job in Las Vegas Nevada. I was 15 and eager to please that family so I agreed to stay later than 8:30. I prepared their 4 year old son, as I was instructed to, and their one year old daughter but their daughter would not go to sleep. I tried for an hour and a half to put her to sleep and nothing worked. Looking at the time I realized the family would be home soon so I called my mother, who was waiting to pick me up (the family gave her permission to stop by if needed), and she came and put the baby right to sleep. This is so funny to me now after working one on one with so many infants and children because I was so scared the family would be mad at me and had to call my mother to save the day!
