A little bit about me

Aloha! My name is Finau Mataele. I’ve lived in Oahu my whole life and have a big family with a number of little ones that I just love seeing grow up! I’ve always helped to care for my younger siblings as well as my nieces and nephews growing up. I’ve worked with kids since i was in high school doing little babysitting jobs for kids in my nursery class. I have done jobs here and there throughout the years since then, always enjoying my time with children. I’ve also volunteered at Kapiolani Hospital’s playroom for a couple years and loved it! Because of my time there, I was able to get my first job as a skills trainer helping special needs children. Anytime I’ve worked with kids, it’s been life changing. Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I volunteered for Kapiolani Hospital’s Playroom for a couple years my ending years of high school. It was an amazing time for me, being able to experience the children and families there with such strength and hope. I also was in charge of my nursery class at church for a couple years caring for children ages 18 months to 3.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I love reading with kids. I have always done that with children I care for. Im always trying to find something to keep them entertained. Honestly when it comes down to it I just always play what they want to play most of the time.

I enjoy being outdoors as well. I love going for walks and to the park. Im always taking my little brother to different activities on the island as well. Like sea life park or the zoo.

My experience with special needs children...

When I just turned 18, I got my first job working for a company named Bayada. There I was able to work with special needs children. I helped them to develop the skills necessary for independent living. I was able to work with newborn babies to teenagers and enjoyed it very much.
