Hi! My name is Frankie, and I have a long history of being a personal assistant. In the last year, I started working with older children in a residential treatment center and had to leave after a workplace injury, but my love of children and teaching life skills and coping skills has not be wavered! I had to take time to rebuild after my injury and I’m ready to get back with the kids! I’m constantly learning and want to learn with the kids, so we can have a fruitful relationship that helps set them up for a life of success!

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I am the eldest daughter and my sister is 13 years my junior, so I spent my teenaged years caring for her while my mother worked.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I love playing with kids and doing arts and crafts, as well as teaching independence by having them be involved with meal time activities which also translates to life skills!

The most important part about being a nanny...

Is about setting boundaries and active listening. I set boundaries with children all the time and this takes form in so many different ways! Setting a boundary of “Please don’t interrupt me, that hurts my feelings and I have something important to tell you” goes a long way for a kid to learn instead of fear interactions of correction. Using gentle tones and listening to children also can mean the world to validating and expressing their feelings, such as instead of “I don’t care who started it” teaches kids that their side is invalid and they won’t get justice in situations where they might need an adult down the line, so in turn saying “The noise level is very loud right now, so everyone blow out as much breath as you can and we can figure this out, okay?” Sets a calm structure and place of understanding, which kids search for all their lives! I want to set kids up for success and sometimes that means listening even when they don’t know the words - kids are much smarter than we see!

My experience with special needs children...

I worked in residential treatment for children ranging from mood disorders to traumatic brain injuries to autistic spectrum disorder to trauma patients and many more! This home-style living was to prepare these children for life back with their families or in group homes by teaching life skills and how to function in a proper home environment.

The most important part about being a nanny...

I remember one little girl was at my treatment center and she was using panteen on her very frizzy hair. And I have naturally curly hair and was in shock! She eventually asked me how to do her hair like mine, so we got to spend a lot of time together testing different products on her hair and different techniques to keep that beautiful curl from becoming frizzy!
