A little bit about me

Hello,

My husband and I recently moved back to the area, and I’m currently seeking part-time work in nannying and/or tutoring. I have a background in Montessori education, with nearly four years of experience working with ages 2-18. I’ve both assisted and led in classroom environments, and I also have extensive experience in babysitting/nannying, coaching, and one-on-one tutoring in reading and writing.

Now onto me...
I'm a musician and passionate about art and creative expression.
I also love to be active and spend plenty of time outdoors! Whether that's running, skateboarding, hiking, playing pick up games of soccer--you name it, I am probably down to do it!
I am the youngest of 5 children, so I am quite familiar with the chaos and fun that comes with bigger families. I've learned to see the value in sacrifice, as well as the importance of charity.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

Apart from my 4 years of Montessori work, coaching soccer, and babysitting, I also worked for two years as a snowboard and ski instructor at a mountain back where I grew up (Pennsylvania). I had the pleasure of teaching a few groups of 6-13 year olds on a weekly basis for a month. I would spend about two hours with them in the evenings. Not only was it fun and challenging, but incredibly rewarding. Seeing the kids progress and become aware of their own capabilities was truly beautiful to witness. Their enthusiasm was contagious! In my time as an instructor, I was also involved in a Ski Bees group which taught skiing to 3-5 year olds.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

Arts and crafts, reading, and music (constructive play)
as well as time in nature, sports, and lots of imaginative play!

The most important part about being a nanny...

Making sure the child is seen and heard. Seeking to understand and to be present to the child.

My experience with special needs children...

I led an adolescent program (in the Montessori method)—we had 20 adolescents enrolled, two of which had special needs (one had Down syndrome and one with autism). I also nannied a little girl (from years 3-almost 5) who had nearly non-verbal autism.

The most important part about being a nanny...

I recently was caring for my friend's kids (2-6). We were doing bedtime stories. The 6-year-old requested I read the book with a silly voice. I tried my best at a raspy British accent and all I can say is there was a lot more laughter than there was reading that evening.
