A little bit about me

I began February 2007 caring for a special needs child when he was 6 y/o, after he acquired a TBI. I continued to care for him until March 18, 2025, when he moved to a new residential provider in Indianapolis. I was responsible for supervising him, making appointments, became his Rep Payee for SSI, provided transportation, cooking, cleaning, took him on vacations, laundry, homeschooled him for a period of time, communicated with Covered Bridge Special Education District re his ISP, Bureau of Development Disabilities, SS, FSSA, accompanied to doctors appts, filed yearly reports for Probate Court and with Social Security re his SSI, met with all other agencies on his behalf, daily agenda always focused around teaching independent living skills so he could eventually hopefully live at least semi independently. Communicated with his mother multiple times throughout the day with updates, concerns, milestones, etc as she traveled with her job more than 300 days per year.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

Was a direct service professional for 18 years, caring for a special needs individual with a TBI, also was manager of shelter for victims of DV and had a lot of interaction with infants to teen age individuals; I have been a CASA for Greene County Circuit Court and only left that volunteer position because the individual I began caring for needed a full time advocate for himself.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I have to get to know the children and what their likes and dislikes are. Would go from there. Keeping them happy, stress free and peaceful is # 1 goals.

The most important part about being a nanny...

Being firm, fair and consistent. Communication skills and respect is a 2 way street.

My experience with special needs children...

Worked for special needs individual (live in) 18 years & navigated every aspect of everything he needed from supervision, transportation to appointments, managing safety/emergency plans, filing reports with FSSA, Probate Court, advocating for services for him, dealing with bureaucracy (BDDS, DDRS, FSSA) when it came to securing services, accompanied to PCP/Psychiatriac/behavioral therapist appointments; grocery shopping, teaching independent living skills, took him on vacations, homeschooled for a period of time, was basically on call 24/7. Stayed in constant contact with his mother whose career kept her away from home approximately 300 days out of a year… job just ended 3/18/25 when he moved to a new residential provider.
