My name is Gene'a Mitchell, I am a 34 year old professional who has spent the last 10+ years working in NonProfit Education! As an educator I have worked in a variety of roles, with an array of children; primarily in underserved communities.

My commitments:
Children should be well-rounded; reading, listening, cooking, exploring the world around them, being curious, learning other cultures, etc.
Children should be respectful, while being respected. I believe that children should be allowed to ask "why" and adults should give an honest answer and if we don't know the answer that is ok!
Children should try new experiences: Pottery, Photography, Gardening, Skateboarding, Rollerskating, Painting, etc.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

As mentioned in my bio, I worked as a Managing Director for a Non-Profit that focused on providing new and exciting experiences through 10-week apprenticeships that made college and careers more accessible! While doing this work I prioritized positive behavior incentive systems and academic excellence.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I enjoy pottery, rollerskating, general arts and crafts, board games, video games, puzzles. I also enjoy going outside and playing soccer, basketball, tennis, running, etc.

I'm a very open to learning from children so if there are specific interests they are into I would explore it alongside them.

The most important part about being a nanny...

I believe children do need routines, understanding, and structure. I am very understanding; however, I do believe that structure and some discipline is important. With this in mind, I believe that children should be heard! They should be able to ask questions, because Curiosity is important. I also believe in academic excellence from Kindergarten and up. With my experience in education, I have seen far too many children fall far behind academically without having an understanding of how far behind they are. I believe you can learn in any environment and you can apply school learning to the real world if you have the time, which is something I truly enjoy doing as a caretaker!

My experience with special needs children...

I have worked with a variety of children with specialized needs. Again I worked in Public K-8 schools, which allowed me the privilege of working with children on the spectrum, with behavioral needs, and more.

The most important part about being a nanny...

I enjoy when kids are excited about their lives and want to just tell you everything! It allows me to better understand them while forming a genuine connection : )
