A little bit about me

Hey! My name is Gracie Wachtel. I grew up in Los Angeles and after volunteering with refugee children and toddlers with autism in Israel, and then receiving a B.F.A. from The Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, I settled here in Monkey Junction. I am a singer songwriter and producer in my free time, and I've worked for the Brigade Boys and Girls Club, volunteered with their organization and WIRE near downtown. I was responsible for nearly 25 children at at any given time. I helped with homework, assisted with snack and planned and led activities with ages ranging from 1st grade to 6th. I am also seeking out a substitute teacher position, and am eager to further my experience working and more importantly, caring for children. I co-parent my partner's six year-old every other week and I've raised a Bully from 8 weeks old to 3 years. I am eager to be of service and confident I'll do great, I hope you'll find me helpful!

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I worked at the Brigade Boys and Girls Club, volunteered with their organization and WIRE near downtown Wilmington as well. Prior to moving to Wilmington, I volunteered in Israel with children of refugee families and toddlers with autism. I've worked various summer camps, which furthered my care skills with special needs children as well. I've babysat throughout my whole life, babies and children up to 11 years old. I co-parent my partner's six year-old boy part time and I've raised a Bully from 8 weeks. I am applying simultaneously for a substitute teacher position to further be of service in the youthful educational system. I have experience with babies, activity wise and putting them down for bed, and being there if by chance they wake up. I understand all parents develop routines with their children and I intend to respect and follow them.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I love bringing kids to the park, teaching them how to pump their legs on a swing and pretend we're traveling around the world while we explore the playground. I am a big fan of creative expression, drawing in and out of the lines, art projects, making gifts for siblings, parents, guardians and even teachers or after school caretakers. I am interested in what they are interested in, I'm eager to learn about them. Whether it's practicing a trick for soccer, a new video game or dance routine, I enjoy helping in any way I can to help them follow their passions.

The most important part about being a nanny...

The most important part about my being a nanny is to remember that I am responsible for the single most important thing/things in their parents lives. My number one job is to provide a safe environment.

My experience with special needs children...

I have experience with toddlers with autism, and spent a summer assisting with a 2nd grade triplet on the spectrum. What a beautiful, special girl she was. It was important for her to understand completing one task demanded by a counselor in order to reach an exercise or eat a food she desired. This is referred to as rewarding.

The most important part about being a nanny...

One of my favorite nanny moments with a 1 1/2 year old boy named Elliot. I watched the monitor as he took a nap, and when he started to wake up only after 20 minutes of being put down, I followed the mother's instructions to watch him as he hopefully put himself back to sleep. I watched him turn left and right, a slight whine, and then grabbed onto the stars dangling above his crib. He slowly began to yawn, and shortly after drifted back into sleep. It was incredible to watch this baby boy soothe himself, even though I was right there to catch him if he couldn't. Teaching babies and children to do for themselves is ultimately the goal in my eyes, showing them how to be the best people they can be in too many areas to name. We teach them to brush their teeth, to put their shoes by the front door, but when they learn how to manage their minds and hearts, I know the world is turning correctly.

Full-Time Nanny Available in Wilmington, NC: Mallory P.

Hi, I'm Mallory Paul! I am a recent 23 year old college graduate. I was involved with any organizations and played many sports while growing up. I've been working with kids since 2010 and love it. I started by watching my younger brothers, and then began babysitting for kids in our neighborhood. Over the last years, I've worked primarily with kids of all ages. If it's nice out, I like to take the kids outside, but if not, playing inside is just as fun! :) In my free time, I love to hike, swim, bake and many others.
