Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I have volunteered at my public school with the special needs program many times. I would mainly play with them during gym, and i would sit in their classrooms and help them learn. I have an 8 year old sister who is about to turn 9, and a 2 year old brother. I have babysat and taken care of my sister for many years and i enjoy it very much. I also nannied for the sweetest little girl around 3 years old for about 5 months and had a blast with her.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
Arts and crafts, going to the park, drawing, painting, baking together, doing schoolwork with them, any outdoor activities they enjoy, i could teach them the ukulele, or to read music.
The most important part about being a nanny...
What matters to me about being a nanny is putting the child first, and always listening to their needs. I love connecting with children and seeing the world through their eyes.
My experience with special needs children...
My little cousin is autistic and has tourettes, and i’ve spent lots of time with her and have babysat her before. When i went to public school i would volunteer and play with special needs children during gym class. I also have a 2 year old brother who may be on the spectrum, he has sensory issues and we are all working hard to figure out his disability and how to work with it. I have babysat a family friend’s daughter who has cystic fibrosis as well. I feel like we learn more from them than they learn from us. They deserve to be treated with kindness and respect just like any child.
The most important part about being a nanny...
My favorite nanny moment was when i babysat Mary, the child with cystic fibrosis, and she liked me immediately. We played video games and i offered to paint with her, and she asked her mom later if she could ever stay the night with me. Because of her health, she’s never been able to have sleepovers yet, and therefore has never asked to go to a sleepover. It made me feel very special and she holds a special place in my heart.
