A little bit about me

Hi, I'm Haley Woodlief! I have two kids of my own, 22 month old and a 2 month old. I love working with kids and have always had jobs involving childcare. I've babysat for different families for about 8 years, have been a camp counselor for a hotel (for a little less than a year), have worked at a daycare, and have nannied the last 2 years. I'm willing to work with really any age, but have most experience with infants - 4 year olds.
I seek to be a responsible, safe, and loving caregiver to the children and be someone trustworthy and reliable for parents! If you are comfortable, it would be helpful to bring my kids as well but if not that is absolutely okay!

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

Most recently, I nannied for a family with two kids (4 and 6 years old) and brought my daughter with me — so I looked out for 3 kids total. I was with them for almost a year and took them on outings, helped a small amount with light educational work, and also did some light housework.
I was a substitute at Wesleyan Christian Academy, where I would fill in for teachers and take care of children from the ages 6 weeks to 5 years old.
I also worked as a camp counselor at the same school as a camp counselor for the summer of 2020. I had a group of about 9-13 kids by myself (ages ranged from 6 to 9).
In 2019, I lived in Florida for a year and worked at the Breakers Hotel as a childcare specialist. It ran similarly to a summer camp but was open year round. I had experience with different kids of all different ages and was there a little over 8 months.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I love doing outdoor activities with kids, whether it's going out on walks, bike rides, taking kids to the park, or having simple outside time at the house. I also enjoy indoor activities playing games with kids, honestly whatever they're interested in. I've had plenty of experience with playing along with kids creative imaginary games, as well as engaging in more educational (real) games and/or puzzles.
With infants, seeing as how they can't really do much, I try and balance out time they have to explore and entertain themselves (on their backs), make sure they have some tummy time, as well as holding them (even reading to them if desired by the parents).

The most important part about being a nanny...

I think one of the most important things as a nanny or any kind of childcare provider is to understand your role. To the parents, you want to be someone they can rely on and trust. For the kids, you want to be someone who will love and take care of them (have some fun) while also giving them the structure they need. It's important to not be a pushover with kids and let them do whatever they want, but it's also really important to understand that they are still kids (no matter what age) they're still growing and developing and every moment can be learning step. Kids are more attentive than we give them credit for and are always watching what you're doing, so I think it's vital and really fascinating to see how you can have an impact on kids (whatever stage they may be in).

The most important part about being a nanny...

I think one of my favorites was with the family I consistently babysat for; they had two boys and two girls (who were twins). I had them one day over the summer and it was hot. They were all a little bit moody and couldn't agree on something to do. So I ended up taking them to this park that had a bunch of walking trails. Surprisingly, they wanted to go on the trails rather than just play on the playground. So we went on one and I just remember how sweet it was how attentive they were to everything. Every weird tree we passed, every pretty flower they saw, even weird bugs they found, it was like it was the most amazing thing they'd ever seen. It was overall a really fun little adventure with them, but it was my favorite because they were so excited over the little things and were being so patient and caring for each other. It was gorgeous out and was a time I was able to build with each of them individually and I just loved that opportunity!
