My experience with special needs children...
I volunteered for the special Olympics and Athletes Helping Athletes for multiple years. I am great at dealing with any child (of any age) with different abilities. I am compassionate and understanding during episodes. I take special care and time for the children needing it most. I’m great at finding different approaches to meet every child’s needs. There are always multiple solutions to every problem. I’m positive I have helped many children feel less alone with their struggles.
The most important part about being a nanny...
It was one of the first times that I was babysitting for my neighbors kids. There were two children. The oldest was 9 and the youngest was 6. I was tasked with helping them off the school bus, making their dinner, helping with homework, light house keeping, games, and putting the kids to bed. What I wasn’t told by the children’s parents, was that sometimes their friend would crash in the basement. It was around 9:00pm (almost their bedtime) when a car pulled into the driveway. The youngest girl asked if her parents were home. I explained that someone is probably just turning around in their driveway. Their parents weren’t supposed to be home for another few hours anyways. Then, she said “maybe it’s the man who lives in my basement,” calm as day. I thought she was trying to play a joke on me. But seconds late, the door opened and a large man walked inside and went to the basement. I called their parents immediately, and they apologized. It was scary at the time, but now I laugh about it
