Hi! I’m Heather Peters — a certified NYS teacher (Birth–Grade 6) with 4+ years of experience and a passion for child development.

I’ve worked with all age groups, from infants to teenagers, and also nannied for a younger family. I bring a calm, educated, and nurturing approach to every household I join.

My experience with special needs children...

I have taken introductory college courses on educating children with special needs, and I've done 1 on 1 field work with a student I followed for a semester. I've also nannied a toddler with autism for a couple years, and I've been a substitute teacher for special education teachers for 3 years.

The most important part about being a nanny...

One of my favorite nanny moments was teaching a 8-year-old how to do 5-finger breathing when he was feeling overwhelmed or angry. We practiced tracing his fingers slowly with his pointer finger — breathe in going up, breathe out going down. He would have major outbursts when upset. Just a half hour later he was triggered again and I looked over and he was doing the finger breathing strategy quietly on his own! It was such a proud moment. Seeing him use a coping tool I had taught him made me feel like I really made a difference in how he handles big feelings.
