Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I started as a mother's helper at the age of 11! From 18-present I have worked with over a dozen families in the role as babysitter or nanny and in 2009 I became a certified birth doula. In addition to that I am a trained postpartum doula with experience in overnight work supporting families singles and twins! In addition to my professional experience, I also have 40 years experience as an aunt plus 19 years experience as a parent to my own child.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I thrive in an environment where learning is the focus. I enjoy reading, writing, playing board games, making up stories and putting on plays/performances. I have a background in dance so I am always up for a dance party or freeze dance. I love to teach so helping with homework or tutoring is also something I enjoy doing with children in my care if they are in need. In addition to that, I love sports and really enjoy coaching/teaching littles baseball/softball and basketball specifically (but I'm up for most sports in general).
The most important part about being a nanny...
The most important part of being a nanny is working in partnership with the parents to build an environment that supports and encourages the child and the whole household. I take my role in that very seriously and I always strive to not only be a source of care, comfort and guidance for the child/children but to also be a sounding board and resource to the parents.
My experience with special needs children...
Since I am the bonus mom of two boys with special needs, I have quite a bit of experience regarding that. Both boys are on the Autism Spectrum with differing degrees of needs. I also have experience with children living with ADHD, OCD and ODD.
The most important part about being a nanny...
My favorite nanny moment was when a child I worked with asked me if I would still be his nanny when he was older so I could drive him to graduate school!
