Other than just babysitting when available, I've helped care for kids in a hospital setting when I was a patient transporter as well as being a cheerleading and golf coach!
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I love taking the kids on a walk or playing outside with their toys or playing sports. I'm not very good but arts and crafts are always fun to do too! If you have a dog we can all go together on walks and play as well!
The most important part about being a nanny...
the most important part is that your kids are happy and feel safe with me. I strive to be like a big sister to them and make them feel no different than if you were around! I never lie to the children to make them feel better and try to communicate with them about the things that are going on around them. Another extremely important thing is consent, whether that be for being picked up, wanting ketchup with their fries, ect. Making sure they learn to vocalize their boundaries and that them saying no thank you is acceptable.
My experience with special needs children...
I have not cared for any special needs children directly, however have been involved with and around them and have no problem doing research and educating myself on how to go about helping you and your child have the best possible care!
The most important part about being a nanny...
My favorite nanny moment was when I took one of the kids to aquatots and he gave me a mini heart attack when he swam to the bottom of the pool to get a ring. he's almost 3 and I was not aware of how good of a swimmer he already was and me and his swim teacher had a nice laugh about it after!
