More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I volunteered with children through all four years of college at an after-school program through the Baptist Collegiate Ministries.

The summer of my junior year of college I lived with a missionary family in China and helped take care of the daily needs of their three year-old son with special needs, including training him to feed himself, sensory play, daily walks, and therapeutic exercises.

During high school I volunteered at my church as a “Cubbie” leader, helping teach and care for the 4-6 year-olds.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

Reading books, cooking, imaginative play, singing and dancing.

The most important part about being a nanny...

Treating each child with respect and dignity, acknowledging their personhood, and the great honor and responsibility it is to be entrusted with their care.

My experience with special needs children...

The young boy I worked with and helped care for suffered from sight loss, and had sustained significant brain trauma, causing the left and right sides of his brain to no longer communicate. We worked on saying simple words and responding to simple commands (“let’s walk,” “put on your shoes,” etc.), as well as learning to feed himself, and maintaining his physical strength.

The most important part about being a nanny...

With one of my little ones, he was having an extra fussy day, so I was holding him while walking around the house with soft music playing. I was also taking a swing dance class at the time, so I started dancing while holding him and eventually he fell asleep in my arms while I danced. I’ll never forget that sweet moment.
