A little bit about me

Hi, I’m Iris! I have around 3 years of experience working with children and love to be a part of helping foster intelligence, kindness, and curiosity within the kids I work with. I have experience working with children who have autism and other cognitive disorders. I am a big proponent for positive reinforcement and enjoy utilizing a treasure chest and other fun things to reward positive behavior. I am conversational in ASL and enjoy incorporating it when I work with my kiddos to progress language skills when necessary. I also am able to perform meal preparation and I try to find opportunities to teach kids about healthy eating by getting them involved in preparing food. I also generally try to have at least one activity planned to engage in something new and exciting while also minimizing screen time. I am also CPR and First Aid certified. I look forward to building a great relationship with the next family I get to work with!

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I have been a registered behavioral technician. This involved me providing in-home play therapy for children with cognitive disorders to address improvement in social, educational, and adaptive living skills. I generally would work with my kids one on one and would engage with them in play, mealtimes, and during family outings while taking opportunities that naturally occurred, as well as incorporating “work time” periods, to teach various skills. I worked 3-6 hours a day with my kiddos.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I love to plan new activities for each time I see my kiddos. I have done activities like painting, creating a bean-bag-toss game, reading, gardening, making easy & healthy meals together (like ants on a log or fruit skewers), and having “fun Fridays” (which involve different themes and activities based on those themes, like luau, Paw Patrol, space, detective/mystery, etc.).

My experience with special needs children...

I have worked with children who have autism, fetal alcohol syndrome, and neonatal abstinence syndrome.

The most important part about being a nanny...

It would be impossible to pick just one moment, but I have always really enjoyed sparking my kiddos’ curiosity. I love setting up treasure hunts and watching them figure out all of the clues or creating “lava lamps” with oil and water, among many other things.
