The most important part about being a nanny...
Setting a fantastic example for kids in emotional regulation and mindfulness, love, kindness and patience. Understanding that there isn't a one-size-fits all approach to childcare or learning, and being flexible with children to keep them engaged, motivated, and truly happy. Reminding those kids that they are safe, respected and loved. Meeting parents where they are in their journey and being a reliable pillar of support and friend.
My experience with special needs children...
I've worked with kids and teens with ADHD, ASD, Down's Syndrome, cognitive delay, genetic and physical abnormalities. I've also worked with Deaf children and teens.
The most important part about being a nanny...
I've never been a full-time nanny due to mostly opting for speech pathology or behavioral health positions, however I would have to say my favorite memory was when I worked in-home and in-school 6 hours a day with a 4-year-old little boy on the Autism Spectrum and his 6-year-old older sister. We would make obstacle courses outside and compete, and it was so much fun!
