I also taught centers in the local elementary school, volunteered teaching in a nursery school program and volunteered teaching underprivileged children.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I cant imagine anything that I don't like playing! I love pretending, board games, sports, etc. For the little ones, I tend to work towards milestones and find ways to make them fun. I am a creative soul, so anything having to do with the arts is a big yes! I also love just sometimes throwing or kicking a ball around or even just laying in the grass deciding what clouds look like. I'm also a good listener if someone just needs to chat.
The most important part about being a nanny...
I think that the most important part of being a nanny, is being able to read your kids (and I did NOT mean to say read TO them). Every child has their individual "signals". Its important to tune yourself into their signals. It takes caring enough to watch them in all instances and learn who they are whether they are sick, well, happy, sad, angry, fearful, etc. You truly need to care as much as their own Parents do. Their well being, safety and happiness depends on it.
My experience with special needs children...
I babysat for a young boy when I was in high school. He was paraplegic. It was a truly humbling experience. Probably the nicest boy I ever met!
The most important part about being a nanny...
the first time, all four kids ran to the door to give me hugs at the end of the day. I had to hold back the tears of joy. I also love it when one of my kids gets something for the first time. Milestones are sooooo fulfilling!
