More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
Aside from my experience in babysitting and tutoring, I am a graduated Ambassador Girl Scout who planning and directed events for younger girl scout troops. In addition to that, I’m also the eldest of three and I would be lying if I didn’t say that definitely has help my experience when interacting with siblings during an argument and communication between siblings.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
Art! Art is one of the best ways for children to express themselves, relieve stress, and get to know the child better! Kids have an amazing ability to be creative, something that school might not always entertain, but I find it extremely important in their free time but also to incorporate with their learning. In the past I’ve done projects like tie dye, sensory jars, pastry making, and painting. Learning art activities include making clocks out of cardboard (to help learn time), making money and then using it in games for learn money and addition/subtraction), and costumes (learning history and immerse as a character in a book). Aside from art, reading is also something I try to do with children. Reading a book together, taking turns, or letting a child read a book to you helps improve reading proficiency and inspire kids to read. Especially if a longer book has a counterpart movie it can incentivize the child to interact more with the book!
The most important part about being a nanny...
I think the most important thing about being a nanny is to create an environment where children can be their most productive and inspired. In order to do this, as a nanny I am responsible for engaging with them in the way that makes them most comfortable, creating a trust bond, keeping up with their interests, and providing the space to be able for them to request new activities and share new ideas (wether we can actually execute them or not!).
My experience with special needs children...
As somebody that has ADHD and has learned to navigate school and home life with it, I find it very easy to interact and help children with ADHD and ASD second nature. School especially can be hard and it’s not for the reasons most would think! A change in how topics are taught and how communication of information is handled can make a HUGE difference which can be observed almost immediately. I also have experience with more adventurous children who tend to find themselves in trouble often and have had positive results in my communication with them (like anger management, hyperactivity, and conduct management). When it comes to children who my be more physically handy capped, I do not have prior experience with meeting those kinds of needs, but I’m more than happy to learn!
The most important part about being a nanny...
My favorite day to day experience being a Nanny is the excitement I see when kids see me! It warms my heart knowing that im not only somebody that takes care of them, but somebody who they can trust and confide in. My favorite single experience has been to inspire children to pick up activities they may otherwise never have been interested in. One child I nannied/tutored actually took an interest in children’s programming after I showed them what I do in school! We eventually made it into an after school activity that they could look forward to. That was pretty amazing to watch, especially since they were only in elementary school!
