The most important part about being a nanny...

21st century life is demanding. Between full time jobs, cooking, cleaning, errands, and connecting with kids, sometimes it's impossible to do it all, let alone have any time to recharge. The most important part of being a nanny, for me, is providing that extra hand that makes all the difference. Being there to provide that essential activity time, help with homework, to do some laundry, or prep a meal, can take so much weight off of a parent's shoulders and create a less stressful, more harmonious family environment where children can flourish. To me, this is what being a nanny is all about.

My experience with special needs children...

My last job included caring for a boy with ADHD and dyspraxia from when he was 4 years old to when he was seven. Additionally, I've helped care for autistic family members for as long I can remember.

The most important part about being a nanny...

My favorite nanny moment has got to be when a very shy four year old I work with started asking his parents to call me when he fought with his older brother. Though he was not yet able to articulate his feelings, he wanted to talk to me about what happened that made him feel hurt. It meant the world to me to watch this easily embarrassed, private child go from running away and hiding when his feelings were hurt, to seeking out support and comfort.
