More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I grew up in a close-knit community where all the "older kids" would take turns babysitting the younger ones. I started babysitting at 14, and continue to do so some 10 odd years later. Throughout high school, I worked as a volunteer English as a Second Language tutor at a local Spanish speaking elementary school. Additionally, I was a camp counselor each summer in high school working at two camps; one for Spanish speaking children, and another, a sports camp. In college, I continued babysitting and nannying for different families in the Athens area. Occasionally, I would go on trips with a babysitting family to the beach and the mountains. Most recently, this summer I worked full time as a camp director at a children's day camp. Then, part time, I was a nanny for two families staying in the Jackson, WY, area, where I spent the summer!
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I am very active and love spending time outside/in nature. My favorite activities, which are no longer super accessible to me, include biking, hiking, trail running, climbing and more. A new environment has converted those hobbies into museum going, walking, Citi-biking, and more! I think kids have the most fun when they are stimulated by something engaging. I love puzzles and board games (card games included), and think that these are an awesome way to engage children when there is downtime (with no screens). I also have always loved to teach/tutor, so that is something I enjoy doing with children as well.
My experience with special needs children...
I have experience nannying and tutoring both Autistic children, and those with Downs Syndrome.
