The most important part about being a nanny...
The most important part about it for me is making sure the children feel comfortable and not like some scary lady is taking over control. I was once a shy kid myself, and it can be pretty scary at first. Of course, I think it's good to reinforce manners and things like that and I have no issue doing it, but I also like to balance out rule following with a fun time! Just to let them know their efforts are being seen and heard, the same way I would want to be treated if I were a kid still. :)
The most important part about being a nanny...
Just this thanksgiving, I had watched one of my mother's coworker's kids the day before. They came over for Thanksgiving as well, and the 6 year old girl actually cried before she left that night because she was disappointed that I was hanging out with the rest of the adults instead of playing with her! Now typically I would be like... "yeah that's a kid thing to do.. she was probably just tired.." But! It turns out she has been asking and asking her Mom to see me again since the very first time I watched her, which was about 2 months before!! It was pretty sweet to know that my presence was that important to someone, you know??
