"I’ve known Kaniya for almost three years now as the Dean of Curriculum and as the co-advisor for the Black Student Union at MSHS. I deeply value her contributions to our school and am consistently impressed by her work and commitment to compassion. She has served in officer positions for two years and has taken our club from 6 members to 47 members. She participates in BSU field trips, conferences, and collaborates with many people. Kaniya balances her academics while creating lessons for BSU on Black culture. As an Associated Student Body member, she actively participates in events and task force groups. I admire her ability to prioritize tasks with compassion. Kaniya is goal-oriented and plans to pursue a career in education. Time and again I have seen when Kaniya sets her mind to something, she accomplishes it. There is no doubt in my mind that Kaniya will be successful in life and I can't wait to see all the wonderful things she does.
Thank you for your time,
Stephanie H."

More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I've worked in numerous settings with children over the past 3 years. My passion for childcare arose in high school where I took a sequence of education courses to prepare me for college. I was officially placed as an intern during my senior year of high school where I cared for 5-month-olds to 2.5-year-olds. This position consisted of washing hands, taking off shoes, greeting parents and children as they were signed in, taking temperature, engaging in play, preparing food or bottles, feeding at tables, burping, focusing on building fine motor skills, engaging with staff, and filling out my time sheet and reflecting each week with my supervising teacher. Along with this commitment I competed in skill-based competitions in an extracurricular club called FCCLA and was rewarded for my work over the years with a cord at graduation. These opportunities have allowed me to confidently work with children from 5 months old to 10 years old.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I am very active, as I’ve been a student athlete for the majority of my life so I love to take children on walks, set up outdoors activities, and swim to entertain children. I love crafting. I enjoy making paintings and I have gathered a collection of art mediums over the years as I’ve explored what’s most fun for me. I love to reuse, repurpose, and recycle when it comes to children's toys (I made a toy for children and competed on a state level with it). I focus on activities that encourage positive behaviors such as fine and gross motor skills. I like exploring and creativity which is why I’m so fond of children. Being around kids made me gain more curiosity and think creatively!
The most important part about being a nanny...
The reason I choose to work with children is because I genuinely connect with them on a human level. For myself, it’s fulfilling to be a positive influence in their lives, watch them grow, and support them as they’re figuring out this world. Witnessing a child's development is incredibly rewarding. And having positive influence in their lives is a privilege that I feel all children should have!
My experience with special needs children...
My personal experience lasted about 6 months. I was hired to babysit 3 kids (ages 2-8 y/O), one being autistic and having ADHD. I was able to apply what I learned in my child development and psychology class when approaching this new experience. And I found myself most successful when staying observant and catering specifically to the child’s needs. I learned many new things, such as how to handle meltdowns and find the cause of them, appropriate play, behavioral patterns (that helped me influence good behaviors), and overall, how neurodivergent kids may need more attention but should be handled with empathy, just like any other
person. I learned many valuable techniques and was able to widen my perspective on children through this opportunity, and I’m hoping to learn more in the future!

My favorite moment was after a month of introducing and practicing with a toddler at my internship they were taking interest and trying to read books on their own.
