Classroom volunteer and tutor, Big Sister in the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program, Nursery worker and Sunday School Teacher for decades. Baby sitter since I was 12. My husband and I have a grown child, so I get Motherhood!
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I believe it's important to be outside at least part of every day, taking a stroller ride, finding cool rocks, water play, kicking a ball around, following the child's lead. If it's raining, blow bubbles on the deck or stomp in the puddles.
Inside: singing and reading to kids, building with blocks, play dough, coloring, simple meal prep, making a fort, listening to music. I discourage screen time because there are too many other fun things to do.

The most important part of being a nanny is loving each child as they are individually and helping them reach their next milestone.

I have cared for kids with food allergies, ADD Inattentive, and Anxiety.
The most important part about being a nanny...
After 36 years, it's really hard to pick ONE. I just attended the wedding of one of my nanny kids (3 months to 8 years old). It was great to watch him grow up and still be a part of his life.
On the last day of my most recent job (4 kids, 13 years), I got a big bear hug from all four kids at once.
My favorite compliment is when one of my nanny kids accomplishes something wonderful and their parent, or grandparent, leans over to me and whispers, "You know, Karen, that's because of you. Your nanny work made that happen." The situations have been learning to hold their own bottle, using excellent manners, learning how to read, doing well on a hard test, etc.
