A little bit about me

Hi there, I'm Kateri! I've had the joyful experience working with children for most of my life, starting as a babysitter and camp counselor in my youth, and working my way up to being a lead daycare teacher and children's Librarian assistant! I have worked extensively with children aged 1-7, but I also have experience with older elementary/middle school aged children as well. Childcare, and understanding a child's behaviors and development, have been a passion of mine since I was young. I am a creative and artistic person who loves doing art projects, experiments and other activities that spark joy and imagination. The most important aspects of childcare, to me, are nurturing curiosity and getting on the level of the child I'm caring for. This can be through listening intently to all they have to say, or literally physically getting down to their level. Empowering them to recognize their autonomy and person-hood, while also respecting the rules and guidelines set in place by parents.

The most important part about being a nanny...

Not a specific moment, but one of my favorite moments when babysitting and nannying is the excitement when I pull out my "bag'o'tricks," which usually contains an art project we can do together, a silly toy or brain puzzle, or a piece of candy, if ok with parents! I use this tool with children who may be nervous about meeting a new Nanny and friend, and as a routine! "What did Miss Kat bring today?"
