I was a live-in nanny in Winnetka, Illinois for 5 years in my early 20’s for 4 boys starting from ages 3, 8, 10 and 12.
I was a live-in nanny in Portland, Oregon for 3.5 years working with 3 amazing girls from ages 2, 6, and 9. I moved to San Francisco and was a live-in nanny for a 4 month old for 1.5 years.
I spent more than 10 years , after the above, working for outdoor education programs; Outward Bound and others, working with children ages 9 to 19 in various capacities.
When my daughter was born and became school age, we lost my brother to cancer. As you may imagine this was devastating. I brought my daughter and stepson home to homeschool. From there I saw a need, so I started my own company that offered classes to homeschoolers in partnership with 5 school districts. At the height I worked with approx. 3000 students per week. I did everything in those years, from writing all of our curriculum to teaching. I got to do all of this with my kids! Which made it incredible!

Activities I enjoy doing with children...
So many things! Playing at the park; chase, hide and seek, exploration of plants etc. I would love to explore outdoors, plant a garden, or make mud pies. I love to do art projects, craft projects, coloring or painting. Helping young people with schoolwork is so rewarding. Reading or doing puzzles is a blast. Building with blocks or legos is fun. Playing dress up and pretending to be superhero’s or scientists or royalty is wonderful! Science projects and discovery is a blast. Swimming, biking, hiking and building forts are super cool activities. As is watching a movie or playing board games.
The most important part about being a nanny...
There are so many aspects of being a nanny that are important. From watching a munchkin take their first steps while FaceTiming parents, to supporting a family through the loss of a loved one.
My experience with special needs children...
I have experience with autistic children, ADHD and children who learn differently. I also have some experience with children who have physical challenges. I have a vocal disability and am familiar with the daily opportunities for growth as well as the, sometimes dramatic, challenges an ableist world can present. I am open to learn and grow to partner with caregivers and parents.
