I was an au pair in Spain for a family with 3 kids from 18 months to 5 years old. My job was to help improve their English but it was a lot of work to take care of all three at once. However, seeing their progress in learning, enjoying reading and learning while laughing a lot made it worth it.

I’m very artistic, energetic, and creative so I enjoy making fun activities for us to play. Reading, drawing and outside activities in nature are always fun.

It goes without saying that one’s child’s well being is the most important part of being a nanny but for me, providing a stimulating and safe environment is equally as important. It’s very rewarding seeing the kids I’ve cared for learn and develop while having fun and just being a kid.
My experience with special needs children...
I cared for a 17 year old boy with cerebral palsy. It was great getting to know him and spending time with him. My job entailed giving him messages, calming him down when he got too anxious, and just hanging out with him and make sure he had a good day.
The most important part about being a nanny...
When I lived in Japan as an au pair, every morning I would prepare a list of educational but fun activities my host’s daughter and I could do to help improve her English. Seeing her excitement to play while watching her progress with the language was such an awarding experience that I’m very grateful for.
