Hello! My name is Kate, and I’m currently a nursing student at ASU in their pediatrics program with Phoenix Children’s Hospital. This program has given me extensive experience in caring for children of all ages — my oldest patient being eighteen, my youngest being two days old! I have always had a passion for working with children, and my time at Phoenix children’s has awarded me the experience of working with children with or without developmental disabilities, as well as kiddos with complex or chronic health conditions. I am no stranger to bathing, changing, or entertaining children, and, if need be, I am experienced in wound care, medication administration, first aid, CPR. More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I am a nursing student in ASU’s dedicated pediatric subspecialty cohort with Phoenix Children’s Hospital. I have also done copious amounts of volunteer work with children, including coaching youth sports teams and camps, as well as working with the City of Surprise Buddy Sports Program, where I taught and supervised children of all ages with various developmental disabilities how to play sports.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

It definitely depends on the age group and the child! With infants, I like to do things like read and sing, floor play, sensory activities, and peek-a-boo if they are old enough. With toddlers, I like to play with blocks and age appropriate puzzles, coloring, simple crafts, singing and dancing, and pretend play. With preschoolers, I like to do arts and crafts, imaginative play, simple board games, baking, reading, and scavenger hunts. With school age children we can play sports, board games and card games, and some safe science experiments.

The most important part about being a nanny...

The most important part about being a nanny is keeping the children safe. You obviously want the time they spend without their parents to be fun and engaging, but nothing comes before their safety.

My experience with special needs children...

I volunteered with the City of Surprise Buddy Sports Program, where I taught and supervised children of all ages with various developmental disabilities how to play sports. In addition, at Phoenix Children’s during my clinical rotations, I regularly take care of patients of all ages with all kinds of developmental disabilities at every developmental level.
