A little bit about me

Hello guardians. My name is Kayla Nicholas, I am 19 soon to be 20 and, I LOVE KIDS!! I have had experience volunteering with my previous churches. I am passionate about helping others and by babysitting/nannying, I am able to help both the guardians and the children. I love to cook (as a picky but healthy eater myself) and clean. I also can help with elementary and middle school homework, love to play, and be active. I am an EMT in New Hampshire and will be certified out here in California mid-March of 2025. I aspire to be a pediatric flight nurse, which means I would be something similar to being paramedic on a helicopter for life flights. I look forwarding to potentially helping you and your family out soon! Remember, "Kay" for kindness.

Hours Notice: My hour are subject to change within the next couple of weeks due to moving, school, and work. I will be diligently checking and updating my profile to reflect what is true to the current time. Thank you for your patience with me :)

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I volunteered as a day camp counselor for a week in summertime in 2018. I was in charge of planning activities, teaching lessons, behavioral management, ensuring child safety, and releasing children to an adult in charge of them.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I love to play any game with a child as long as it is safe, age-appropriate, approved by the guardian and very importantly, fun for the child. I am able to play indoors and outdoors. I also like to read, write, sing, dance, and act with children.

The most important part about being a nanny...

Safety is my number one priority, and I take it very seriously. I am all for having fun and, believe everything can be fun if you make it. But with that, safety comes first. I also believe there should be open communication between me (the nanny) and you [the guardian(s)] You should able to tell me if something I am doing is worrying and vice versa. Lastly, the happiness of you child is very dear to me. If I need to do 100 jumping jacks to keep your child comfortable in your absence, I will.

My experience with special needs children...

I have not directly cared for a child with special need such as autism, down-syndrome, or any other intellectual disabilities, but I have cared for children with mental/behavioural issues where they may be a danger to themselves or others, under supervision of another trauma informed adult. I am confident in my abilities with the latter, even without an adult supervising me.

The most important part about being a nanny...

I had a child tell me they were scared to tell me how they felt due to a certain situation. I then replied that anything they say is a secret unless it has something to do with their safety and if it did, I wouldn't tell the unsafe person, I would tell an adult that they trusted that would be able to help, or someone I knew that had their best interest at heart. They then said ok, and asked me to pinky promise. Since I pinky promised I can't tell you what they said, but let's just say I may have had to have a conversation with my kiddos on boundaries. The kid later came up to me and asked if they could hug me, because the person being mean to them was now their "best fwend."
