My experience with special needs children...
I previously was a before school nanny for a child with down-syndrome. I had to wake her up in the morning, get her dressed, feed her breakfast, and put her on the bus to go to school.

One time I was at a park with my kids and the younger one wanted to sit under a tree out of the heat for a little while. I had some small books in my purse, so we started reading/looking at the books. Pretty soon there were a couple other kids that came and joined us. I did not know the other children, but that didn't stop them from coming over and enjoying a story.
