More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I began working with children at 13 when my younger sister was born. Throughout high school I worked as a part time babysitter and, during my summers home from college, I worked as a counselor at a sleep-away camp where I was promoted to a division leader and , soon after, assistant head of girl's side. This job allowed me to work with children from ages 7 - 18 and assist them in social-emotional development, goal setting, and encouragement to be their truest self. I have recently graduated from Temple University with a B.S. in Education. I have worked with students ranging in grades 1st - 8th and have led a full classroom of 25 4th grade students. For the past year I have worked as a freelance nanny to children ages infant - 9 years. Prior to the pandemic I worked as a full time nanny to two boys, ages 3 and 6. Additionally, I have infant care experience including; diaper changing, bottle feeding techniques, and deepened knowledge of Piaget's stages of cognitive development.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
There are so many activities I love to do with children, it's hard to keep it short! To start, I value outdoor play, especially living in NYC. Children are able to gain an understanding of the environment when they are able to explore local parks, playgrounds, or even their own backyards. One of my favorite past time activities was actually a nature scavenger hunt! As a former teacher, I love getting children excited about reading or going to events at the local library. I usually will let the child pick out an age appropriate book and found that children love to act out different characters in the story! If they are too young to read, I like to offer different voices to bring the story alive. It is crucial to get our children excited about literature, which is why I constantly incorporate reading into a daily schedule. It's important to get an understanding of each child's specific interests to better tailor activities suited best for them.
The most important part about being a nanny...
The most important part about being a nanny is allowing children to explore the ever-changing world around them while ensuring their safety. Additionally, as nannies, we must offer stimulating and engaging activities that aide in reaching developmental milestones. Parents entrust nannies to raise their children while they work to support their family, meaning parental communication is key to creating a comfortable and happy home for the child(ren). Finally, I believe it is important that nannies have fun with the kiddos, let's get out there and play some games or get messy doing a craft!
My experience with special needs children...
I have experience working with children on the Autism spectrum through my many years working at camp and as a classroom teacher. I do not have specific certifications in this area, but am open to working for a family in need of assistance.
The most important part about being a nanny...
One of my all time favorite nanny moments was when I was caring for a 7 year old girl who loved to play the piano. I do not have much of a musical background, but this little girl taught me how to play an entire song on the piano in less than an hour! This was the moment I realized my passion for nannying and child care; children are always teaching us something and their minds are capable of endless possibilites that I want to ensure they get to explore.
