Before I left New York for school later in life, I watched a three year-old boy and five year-old girl for the summer. It did not feel like a job, to be honest. I became very close with the family and felt bursts of pride when I saw their little personalities grow in unexpected ways.

Playing pretend, making sounds, pretending to be animals, going to museums, parks and playing "count the dogs."

Finding out who the child is and how to support them. I believe instilling curiosity in children is giving them permission to do what comes very naturally (a skill that we often forget).

A little boy I watched would always pull on my ears. He told me he dreamed about my ears. I found a large plastic two foot ear that I gave to him when the job ended so he would always remember me.
