More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I have done lots of volunteer work with children including track and cross country coaching as well as homeless shelter cake baking and child abuse prevention center toy drives. I love working with children and plan to work in a children's hospital someday. As of now, I am studying pediatric psychology at Linfield University and just trying to make a little extra money when I am home. I have lots of nannying experience and have a super flexible schedule!
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I love arts and crafts first and foremost, but I also have a passion for building forts, playing outside, board games, making snacks together, drawing, and playing pretend of course. I often let the child guide what direction our play goes!
The most important part about being a nanny...
The most important part about being a nanny is establishing a relationship with the children. I am not their parent, but I want them to know that they can trust me and that I care about them. Obviously, I do not sit down and have a conversation like this. Instead, I take very deliberate actions to ensure that the children feel comfortable, safe, and loved.
My experience with special needs children...
I have worked with a few children with special needs through volunteer coaching, but have not worked one-on-one with any special needs children for more than an hour at a time. I absolutely realise that these children need something different or more specific than other children, and I would absolutely be willing to learn what that is for your child in particular, but I strive to treat children equitably as best as I can (obviously without neglecting any specific needs). I don't want any child to feel isolated or different than other children.
The most important part about being a nanny...
My favorite nanny moment has been reading to children before bed. I love hearing the incredible messages in books that parents hand pick for their children. Not only this, but after a long day of fun, it is so comforting for children to cuddle up on the couch while I read. One time in particular, the children were both cuddled up and fell asleep on my lap while I was reading and I carried them both to bed. It was so sweet!
