A little bit about me

Hi! My name is Kiya, I’m 21 years old and currently a psychology student at the University of Oregon. For the past five years, I’ve had the joy of working with children as a summer camp counselor, youth sports coach, and aftercare provider. These experiences have deepened my passion for helping kids grow and thrive, and I’m currently working toward becoming a pediatric occupational therapist. I love creating fun, engaging environments where kids feel safe, supported, and free to be themselves. In my free time, I enjoy reading, swimming, and playing games — and I’m always up for a good round of Uno or a fun outdoor adventure!

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I have over five years of hands-on experience working with children in a variety of settings. As a summer camp counselor, I led daily activities, managed group dynamics, and supported children's emotional and social development. As a youth sports coach, I created a fun and encouraging environment while teaching teamwork and skill-building. In my role as an aftercare provider, I supervised children after school, assisted with homework, and facilitated games and creative play. I’ve worked with children ages 4 to 12 and am passionate about creating safe, nurturing spaces.

I am CPR and First Aid certified, and have completed training in child abuse prevention and positive behavior management.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I love engaging kids in a variety of fun and enriching activities. Some of my favorites include coloring and arts & crafts, playing board games and card games, and spending time outdoors with sports, nature walks, and active play. I enjoy creating activities that match each child’s interests while encouraging creativity and confidence.

The most important part about being a nanny...

To me, the most important part of being a nanny is creating a safe, nurturing, and consistent environment where children feel supported and valued. It’s about building trust — not just with the kids, but with their families too — and being a reliable, positive presence in their daily lives. Helping children feel seen, heard, and encouraged as they grow is what I find most rewarding.

My experience with special needs children...

I have experience working with children with autism and those with severe behavioral challenges. In my past roles as a camp counselor and aftercare provider, I supported kids with a wide range of needs by using patience, consistency, and positive reinforcement. I’ve learned how to adapt activities, provide structure, and communicate effectively to help each child feel safe, understood, and included.

The most important part about being a nanny...

My favorite moments as a nanny are the small, everyday ones — like when a child runs up to me with excitement to show me something they made, or when we share a laugh during a game. I love watching kids grow more confident, curious, and creative over time. Being part of those little milestones and happy memories is what makes this work so meaningful to me.
