More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I was a teacher at La Petite, Kindercare, and a student teacher at Englewood Elementary. I am also a professional nanny and have been for the past 6 years.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

Everything! I love doing crafts, playing outside, going swimming, creating fun lessons that are interest driven, and building things.

The most important part about being a nanny...

Being a caregiver, confidant, and family assistant. Being a nanny means so much but the most important roles are those above. As a caregiver and often as the one that the child sees the most, it is important to be loving, kind, and understanding when working with the children. Being a confidant for both the child and the family helps to relieve tension, help the child process big emotions, and it allows everyone to bond. The family assistant role is also important. Assisting can take many forms but for me, it means that I help get the children ready outside of our own activities, make lists, go run errands when needed, and overall help the family to have more time to spend with their littles when they are home and able.

My experience with special needs children...

Both as a teacher and as a nanny I have cared for children with special needs. As a nanny, I spent nearly a year caring for a child with Autism and behavioral challenges. I have also assisted in the special needs classroom while student teaching.

The most important part about being a nanny...

There are so many... My current favorite was when my current nanny kids started to learn how to read words. She has been asking me how to sound out letters for a while. A few months ago, she figured out how to string the sounds together. She was so happy! Her eyes lit up and she exclaimed, "Ms. Kourtney! I did it! I really did it! I read a word all by myself!" I truly live for these aha moments in children.
