Currently, I am working in a daycare facility with children ages 2 months-5 years. I'm also a swim instructor and work with kids roughly ages 1 to 8 years old. I’ve also babysat since I was 10, working with infants to teenagers.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I love playing board games with kids. In the preschool I work at, read lots of books together, dance, and do lots of fun coloring activities.
The most important part about being a nanny...
The most important part about babysitting for me is to make the kids are safe but still having fun. Lots of times it's hard for someone to trust you when they are first leaving their child with you, so it's important that you keep the parents trust, check in with them, and make sure the child is safe.
My experience with special needs children...
I have minimal experience with special needs children. I grew up with two of our family friends who were special needs. One was hit by a car at a very young age and has a hard time communicating and understanding. The other family friend I grew up with had autism and was nonverbal for a part of his life. Lastly, at the preschool where I work, another kid with autism has a difficult time communicating to us about his needs and has a hard time listening but we do the best we can to help him use his words and help him in any way we can.
The most important part about being a nanny...
One of my favorite moments while babysitting was when I was babysitting some of the kids in my neighborhood. There were four kids and we were playing upstairs building pillow and blanket forts. Each of the four kids wanted their own fort to battle in so we had a lot of fun decorating and creating the forts, as well as battling together. They all teamed up against me in the end and won the battle.
