A little bit about me

Retired sped teacher.
Active. Adept at helping with homework. Strengths are reading, writing, comp vocab & teaching how to write on a higher reading level using polysyllabic words. Also, great conflict resolution. Weakness-math. However! I know how to use YouTube and I always say, it’s not what you know, it’s what you find out out!
Media is a necessity and I don’t judge parents and their children by how it is used. For toddlers, I would not use it as a babysitter unless it is part of a routine.
I’m active. Normal BMI. 58. Love to be outside, play games, chess, scrabble..,cooking, bake or prep meals. Light cleaning with a daily deep cleaning is always good. The child/children is most important. I have teacher eyes, but I don’t pry. If you have an older child, I would observe subtle changes and document pattern before jumping to conclusions then tell parents.
Comp. swimmer 11 yrs and coach 10. Capable of tchng swimming strokes. Have masters degree. Still want to make a difference.

The most important part about being a nanny...

This very short and simple. The child and or the children. Making sure At. All. Times. They. Are. Safe!
Happiness is second, but happiness is something that is slowly taught. People don’t make us happy. We make ourselves happy. Our responsibilities are to teach children from wherever they are to learn how to happy. It’s sometimes a very slow process and you use lots of positive praise and unconditional love. Always excepting faults and never judging. Giving opinions as a sitter only if asked and then only responding what you would do. It’s not ever about how many times you fall down. It’s about how many times you get up. Be positive. Knowing you can’t be great at everything and realizing what you are great at. Finding your subset that you have an exceptional IQ in. Positive assuring support is what kids need.
They need limits. But parents set these. Mots nannies. We just consistently enforce them to make it easier for the child.

My experience with special needs children...

Avoid frustration. If they don’t know it and you given them a time delay answer it. Give them the answer. No frustration
Get some better every day. Strength is teaching reading and writing. I incorporate context clues with comprehension. I believe in admitting you don’t know what a word means and look it up. I do that all the time when I read. Math is my weakness, I cap figure out anything on YouTube. I’m excellent at conflict resolution. The less said the better. I believe in writing your opinions down or draw a picture or if very young, just hold and let cry. When confronted I truly listen to hear, not to respond. I sometimes respond “ I heard you say this ? Is that what you meant?” Communication is SO important! Young children are never too young to learn basic skills. Sounds, fine, gross motor. Over, under through. Simple things. Exercise in small 5 minute intervals throughout the day and have a schedule. Follow yours most importantly

The most important part about being a nanny...

Watching that light go off why’s child gets a new concept. Or the shreak of happiness when eityparent walks in the door and that’s the vey best part of their day!! I like to know they have come home to a home that is tidy, the meal is either prepped or prepared or both. Laundry is done. Things are organized for the next day and all their concerns really? Are their kids. They can take them to their soccer gap, baseball, softball, the park. Be a family with as little stress as possible.
If you have a little one in school? You know I am going to get them, take them to the doctor if needed (consult with you first) but they know that I am on my way to get them and they don’t have to worry about laying on a cot in some back room alone, feeling terrible. I’m on my way.
If young? When we do a painting and it dries and put it on the refrigerator? The joy in your eyes when they see you praise them for it’. Accomplishments. No matter how small
