Hi, I'm Liberty Collins, and I am a senior in college at UCA. An important thing you should know about me is that I love the Lord! I've been working at Smart Start Academy for the past 2 years and before that babysat two kids. At Smart Start I have worked with kids ages 1 1/2 to 12 years old. Furthermore, I've been taking care of children as young as 5 months since I was 13, whether it be for my own family or a friend of the family. I have 3 younger siblings and was constantly asked to watch them growing up, so I was raised loving to help out with the kiddos. The most important part about being a nanny...

The most important thing about being a nanny is making sure the children are getting everything they need, while also enjoying their childhood. You can't give them too much freedom or they'll walk all over you. You also cannot be too strict or there wouldn't be any learning opportunities. You want the kids to trust you and to look forward to spending more time with you. You can do this by being interactive with them and just talking to them about the things they did or love, etc. Make them feel seen! I also think it is important to set a good example through your behavior and your reactions to certain situations. They are always watching you, so how you react to a certain situation may teach them a little more about patience, kindness, love, or whatever other virtue your reaction may have held. I, myself, am a Christian, so it is important for me to represent that in my attitude and behavior.

The most important part about being a nanny...

This is kind of a silly moment, on my part, but I love it. I was caring for 2 kids (ages 3 and 5), and we were playing on the trampoline. I thought it would be smart to run on the outer ring of the trampoline. Yeah. It was not smart at all. I tripped and fell off, bruising the whole side of my thigh. I laid on the ground for a good minute in pain, before getting up. I looked at the kids and they looked completely terrified. Of course, I comforted them and let them know that I was ok. Then, I told them not to do what I just did and that it wasn't very smart. Looking back, I laugh on this moment, but also feel happy because it shows they really cared about me.
