In the last five years I have worked as a Preschool Teachers Assistant, an Afterschool Group Leader/Tutor for K-5 students, and a Lead Summer Camp Counselor for children ages 4-15.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
As far as indoor activities, I love reading with children. Storytime has always been a favorite of mine. Building puzzles, doing crafts, and learning about something new are always fun to do. I love being outdoors! I enjoy taking children to parks, on hikes, to go swimming, anything outdoors!
My experience with special needs children...
I have two years specific to working with children who have higher support needs. This was during my time in a Preschool Classroom. I worked in a DD classroom, also known as a Developmental Day classroom. The classroom was designed for little ones who had higher support needs, often left for varied kinds of therapies, etc. Additionally, during my time as a Lead Summer Camp Counselor, a large part of my job was working with and meeting the needs of our higher support children. Summer camp can be a high stress environment for them but we did as much as we could to accommodate their needs to ensure their time at camp was memorable and enjoyable!
