Hi there!
I have worked with children of all ages and was a substitute for many years when my own children were in school.
I love kids and I have raised 2 of my own. My children are now grown and my youngest just graduated college from Northern Michigan University. I find balance in discipline, and reprimand with both a nurturing spirit and understanding. I've always had a special bond with babies / little kids -- parents are relieved and stunned when I can take a crying and colicky baby in my arms and immediately turns those screams to giggles. I love reading stories to children, being active / playing in the park / sports, building sand castles or snow angels and have tons of energy! I am a great cook and can make lots of fun and healthy snacks -- I know how to get little ones to eat their veggies too! I also have a squeaky clean background, not even a traffic violation. More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I've coached dozens of my children's athletic teams, dance programs, and have been classroom mom / backstage helper for two decades. I've also been a substitute teacher and during that time, taught classrooms full of children between the ages of 5 and 18.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

puzzles, arts / crafts, sports, dance, reading, cooking / baking, caring for pets (I believe that a child who knows how to love / care for an animal grows into a more empathetic / loving adult!), listening to music, playing instruments

The most important part about being a nanny...

The most important part about being a nanny is ensuring the safety and happiness of the child and looking for ways to achieve constant growth. Whether it's learning a new word, song, or cookie recipe that day, I think the happiest child is the one that is in a constant cycle of learning / achieving new things, both big and small.

My experience with special needs children...

I cared for a 4 year old little girl named Angel. She had Down Syndrome and lived full-time with me and my two daughters for a month while my children were in middle school / high school. Her mother was receiving medical care at the time and entrusted me with Angel's care. It was a beautiful experience and when Angel went back to live with her mother, her mother was shocked at her communication skills improvement / a lack of frequent tantrums (which I quickly discovered were usually out of frustration, from a lack of Angel's ability to communicate her wants / needs)

The most important part about being a nanny...

There are too many precious moments when caring for children to pick just one; however some highlights include babysitting for my daughter's cheerleading team for an afternoon and completing a fun project. The girls racked / collected fall foliage in our backyard (and did so in RECORD time) because they were excited to stuff giant orange, jack-o-latern themed Hefty bags that once filled, would look like enormous pumpkins. Making chores (like yardwork) fun for kids is key.
