More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I have cared for babies through school aged children as a teenager, as a mom caring for the children of friends, and since age 9 through today for family members' children. Some of this was paid work, some was just because I love caring for children!
I took babysitting classes in high school and cared for the children of neighbors and family friends until college.
I became an aunt when I was 8 years old. I am the youngest of 7 children and my oldest sister was married and had her first baby at 21 years old (in 1970!!). I love my family and have been blessed with 15 nieces and nephews, most of whom I cared for as babies through childhood at some point. I have also babysat for THEIR children as well!
I also volunteered at the Boys and Girls Clubs of Dorchester, MA. For 12 summers from [phone number hidden] , I was as an overnight camp counselor for girls aged 6-16 at Camp Micah in New Hampshire, some of the best weeks of my life!

Activities I enjoy doing with children...
Everything! Reading books, singing songs, musical play, nature walks, parks to visit and play on swings, slides, climbing structures, children's zoos, children's museums. Also, tactile activities - Lego's building blocks, arts & crafts activities, playing "pretend" - such fun!
The most important part about being a nanny...
To acknowledge and live up to the responsibility taken on by caring for another person's priceless child.
My experience with special needs children...
My first niece was born with a cleft palate, and she required multiple surgeries throughout her development. I did care for her under the supervision of my sister, but also cared independently for her from time to time. She is now an RN and the mother of quadruplets! !! :) We are very close.
I also spent summer days with my sister who was a special education student at Boston College. She had a summer job caring for a young boy with Downs Syndrome, and I learned much about the condition and the "best practice" care methods for this challenge.

The most important part about being a nanny...
Sharing a moment with an inner city child who had never experienced camping; taking her out in a kayak on a gorgeous lake, and seeing her fascination as she took in the beauty surrounding her. It was heart-warming for me to share this moment with her. I will always remember the joy I felt from and for her at that moment.
