I worked as a Registered Behavior Technician for 1 year and 9 months, supporting children with developmental disabilities such as autism. I implemented learning opportunities tailored to each child’s interests to promote engagement and retention, working with 1–4 children at a time. I facilitated appropriate peer interaction, natural environment teaching, circle time, and hands-on crafts. I have experience with diaper changes, basic first aid, feeding, and supporting a child in feeding therapy.

I enjoy hands-on, creative activities like crafting, sensory play, and simple science experiments that spark curiosity. I love reading stories with kids and making them interactive by using voices and asking questions. I also enjoy circle time with songs, dancing, and games that help build social and communication skills. I like using each child’s interests, whether it’s dinosaurs, trucks, or princesses, to create engaging learning moments. I believe the most important part of being a nanny is creating a safe, loving, and consistent environment where a child feels seen, supported, and valued. Building trust with both the child and their family is key. Children thrive when they know they are cared for, listened to, and encouraged. Being present, patient, and understanding allows me to help guide their growth while also respecting their unique personality and needs. It is not just about watching a child, but truly showing up for them every day in a way that makes them feel secure and loved.

My experience with special needs children...

I worked as a Registered Behavior Technician for 1 year and 9 months with children diagnosed with autism and other developmental disabilities. I provided one-on-one and small group support, helping with behavior management, communication, and daily living skills. I used ABA strategies to teach in the child’s natural environment, incorporating their interests to increase engagement. I have experience with children who are nonverbal, use communication devices, and receive feeding therapy. I also assisted with toileting, diapering, and basic medical needs like cleaning wounds.

The most important part about being a nanny...

While I’ve never worked as a nanny, one of my favorite moments as an RBT was seeing the look on a child’s face when something finally clicked. Watching a skill I’ve been patiently teaching suddenly make sense to them is such a powerful and emotional moment. Their pride, excitement, and sense of accomplishment remind me why I love working with children. It is in those little breakthroughs, whether it is a new word, a social interaction, or a daily task, that I feel most connected and fulfilled. Helping them grow and knowing I played a part in that is the best feeling in the world.
