A little bit about me

Hey ya'll, I’m Kenzie!
I’m a social work student at The University of Alabama, graduating in December 2026 with my Bachelor’s in Social Work and a minor in Public Policy. I currently work part time with make a wish foundation.

I have over two years of experience as a nanny and also worked as a camp counselor for ages 6–12. I also volunteered with Arts ‘n Autism in Northport, where I help kids express themselves and build confidence through art.

Outside of childcare, I love to bake, cook, and make things from scratch — from homemade vanilla extract to sugar scrubs and blankets. I became wheelchair-dependent my freshman year of college, which has strengthened my adaptability, empathy, and appreciation for creating inclusive environments.

I live independently in Tuscaloosa and would love the opportunity to bring that same care, creativity, and warmth to your family.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

My current work with arts and autism allows me to support children in building communication, sensory regulation, and confidence through creative expression. As a nanny, I provided one-on-one care for a child, planning engaging activities that encouraged learning and emotional growth. Working as a camp counselor at Camp Cha-La-Kee strengthened my leadership and teamwork skills as I supervised groups of children, promoted safety, and facilitated fun outdoor programs. Additionally, my time as a Build-A-Bear Workshop associate gave me valuable experience interacting with children and families in a joyful, customer-focused setting—helping kids design and personalize their bears while creating positive, memorable experiences. Collectively, these roles have deepened my passion for working with children and fostering inclusive, supportive environments.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I enjoy engaging children in developmentally appropriate, hands-on activities that foster self-expression, coping, and growth. I incorporate life skill–based tasks such as cooking, baking, and reading activities to support cognitive and emotional development. I also value outdoor play—gardening, visiting playgrounds, and exploring nature—as opportunities to promote sensory engagement, motor skills, and social interaction.

The most important part about being a nanny...

The most important part of being a nanny, for me, is protecting, teaching, and encouraging the children in my care.

My experience with special needs children...

My personal experience with disability has given me a strong sense of empathy and understanding for children with special needs. It helps me connect with them on a deeper level and approach every interaction with patience, compassion, and respect for their unique abilities. Through my work in arts and autism, I’ve seen how creative expression can foster communication, confidence, and emotional growth. Additionally, my involvement in accessibility advocacy—such as promoting inclusive design and evaluating ADA compliance—has strengthened my commitment to creating environments where all children can thrive. I strive to model that disability is not a limitation but simply a different way of moving through the world, one that deserves equal opportunity and celebration.

The most important part about being a nanny...

My favorite nanny moment was spending time outside with the young boy I cared for. He approached every experience with such curiosity and excitement—whether it was discovering a new bug, chasing bubbles, or watching the clouds. I loved seeing the world through his eyes and being reminded of how special the simplest moments can be. His sense of wonder inspired me to slow down, be present, and celebrate each new discovery right alongside him.
