One morning, I was making pancakes with the two boys I nanny—ages 3 and 6. They were so excited to help. While I was flipping pancakes, they grabbed wooden spoons and started waving them around, pretending to lead a band. They called it the “Pancake Band” and made the sizzling sound the drums.

Then the 3-year-old held up his juice box and said, “Cheers to pancakes!” I couldn’t stop laughing.
