More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I've worked in several daycares in multiple positions: toddler teacher, infant teacher, group lead teacher, summer camp counselor.
I have experience working with school age children in formal school environments and as an environmental educator at an interactive STEAM center.
I have also volunteered over the past decade face painting at local charities, the Cape May County Zoo, and the pre-schools and kindergartens associated with the daycares where I have been employed.
I have been a full time and part time nanny for several families.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I love exploration of whatever the child has interest in. I really enjoy art, reading, and music and definitely encourage artistic expression through crafts, experiments, movement, etc.
Depending on the location and age of the child, Iove planning activities that include exposure to new things and experiences. For example, my previous nanny position was lucky enough to be in Ocean City, NJ so we would frequently take nature walks, visit every playground on the island, collect shells, take bike rides on the boardwalk. I have an extreme love for animals as well so as long as the child is not frightened of animals -I have taken the children to bird sanctuaries, the zoo, the aquarium, to feed sting rays, to donate at local animal shelters. One of my favorite experiences while nannying was probably going to a sheep and goat dairy farm and getting to feed baby goats and bottle feed lambs.
I currently have a 2 year old lab hound mix named Daisy and volunteer at a shelter in Lambertville, NJ.

The most important part about being a nanny...
providing a safe, fun and loving environment for children where they can flourish and grow.
My experience with special needs children...
I have worked with several children on the spectrum in my classrooms. In these scenarios, I have often collaborated with occupational therapists and specialists and worked with their recommendations. With younger children, it's often working with struggles having to do with food consumption or sensory issues.
I have taken some courses on working with different needs and in that capacity have some experience working with hearing or visually impaired children. I previously had a child in my class who was hearing impaired and received cochlear implants while in my classroom, and she frequently worked with an aid and an ASL teacher.
Most recently, I had a class with multiple children on the spectrum and severe behavioral issues. With that, I have a lot of experience adapting expectations for an individual, meeting a child where they are at, developing collaborative plans with parents/caregivers, and understanding it can be a long process of implementing many strategies to break through.

The most important part about being a nanny...
Two of my funniest and favorite moments include:
After about two years into working with the same child full time, she asked me what my job is and I told her taking care of her was my job and she sort of had an epiphany that I'm not just her best friend who comes to hang out every day for fun. It made me laugh and appreciate that even though it is my job, I really enjoy it.
Another instance was while on a nature walk and teaching the names of flowers to a child who already knew some flowers. We would say hi to the daffodils and other local flora and when introducing the flowers "hydrangeas" and she thought they were called "draengeas" and I was saying "hi" to the "drangeas" and started saying hi drangeas to the flowers whenever we would pass them
