What I found to be an important part about being a nanny is not only building relationships with the kids, but also getting to know the family as a whole, and knowing that they trust me to take care of their kids.
My experience with special needs children...
My youngest brother is autistic so I firsthandly know how challenging it can be because I’ve seen how challenging life can be. The past three years, I've spent a week of my summer at a special needs Christian summer camp called Camp Barnabas, where I choose one camper from my cabin to be my one-on-one buddy for the week. Each experience I’ve had has been one of the best but also challenging me in ways i haven’t been challenged before but the one word every counselor I have had has said patient. And that’s something I take great joy in because not everyone may have the kind of patience’s it take to work with kids who may need more help.
The most important part about being a nanny...
Even though I may not be a nanny, I do work at a daycare where I have been working with kids and building trusting relationships with them. It's hard to have a favorite moment, but one that holds a special place would be my first day working there, and automatically building relationships.
