A little bit about me

Hello! My name is Madison and I am a full time student at Emporia State University. I’m twenty two years old and am looking to assist a family any way I can! I personally love being around children and assisting their exploration of the world. My own mother is a Special Education preschool teacher at Oxford Elementary and I adore helping the kids out when I can. I was a para out in Winfield for a short while, but ultimately had to leave since I was moving to Wichita. I’m working on a Bachelors in Interdisciplinary Studies with the goal of one day being a Children’s Librarian.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I have been volunteering to assist/watch children over the past 11 years or so. When I was in high school, I would watch teacher’s kids and babysit frequently. I also participated in theatre and debate, and we would volunteer for Dr. Seuss day and perform for the kids.
In September of 2022, I was a Special Ed para out in Winfield for kindergarten and first grade. I had to step away from the position unfortunately because I was moving to Wichita. Nowadays, I assist in my mother’s classroom when I can.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I absolutely adore all sorts of craft like activities.
I am a former theatre and arts kid, so I jump at any chance to play “dress up” or “house”. I also deeply believe in the benefits of sensory play and exploration; whether indoors or outdoors.
I also really enjoy reading to kids and making reading engaging.

The most important part about being a nanny...

I would say it’s a tie between respect for the child as an individual, or patience. It’s easy to forget that little kids are simply learning how to exist in a big world, and often times; very large feelings can accompany that. When a child is having a challenging moment, it’s imperative that the caregiver at the moment can regulate themselves and act accordingly and responsibly. Little humans deserve just as much patience and respect that bigger humans receive.
Being able to respect a child’s boundaries and how they communicate is crucial to a successful relationship.

My experience with special needs children...

I have experience with higher behavioral needs and assistance. When I was out at Winfield, I was the main pull out para when a child was experiencing challenges during the activity. At one point, I was moved to the Middle School and helped in the Sped room with assignments and reading.
